Time management in the exam hall: the two-round method
07 Nov 2026 · By the Score Delta team
Most marks are lost not because a question was too hard, but because the student never reached the easy question at the end.
Know your number
- HP Police: 90 questions in 120 minutes = 80 seconds each.
- HP TET: 150 questions in 150 minutes = 60 seconds each.
- HPRCA screening tests: 120 questions in 90 minutes = 45 seconds each.
The two-round method
- Round 1: go through the whole paper. Answer what you know at once. If a question will take long, mark it and move on.
- Round 2: come back to the marked questions, using whatever time is left.
- Last minutes: check your OMR sheet, or the question palette in an online test.
Choose your section order
If the paper allows it, start with your strongest section. Early marks calm you down and save time. Try different orders in your mocks and stay with what works before exam day.
Train the clock
Always take mocks in one sitting with the timer running. The "time per question" view in your analysis shows where you went over. In the Score Delta player, "Mark for review" and the question palette work just like this method.
