7 common mistakes in government exam preparation
07 Nov 2026 · By the Score Delta team
- Not reading the notification. Pattern, marking and eligibility are all there. Read it yourself, and do not rely on a video summary.
- Collecting too many books. One good source for each subject, finished and revised, beats five half-read ones.
- Waiting to "finish the syllabus" before testing. Take a mock in the first week. It tells you what to study.
- Taking mocks without reviewing them. A mock without review is only a score. Most of the learning happens afterwards.
- Taking tests in pieces. Pausing and checking your phone trains the wrong habit. Sit through the whole paper at least once a week.
- Ignoring your language paper. In many state papers, Hindi and English together carry a large share of marks and can be improved quickly.
- Leaving the physical or typing test for later. Skill tests need weeks of practice and cannot be crammed.
One habit that fixes most of these
Every Sunday, take one full mock, review it the same day, and write down two things to fix that week. Keep that note. In a month, you will have your own guide to your own mistakes.
